Looking at replacing an 02 Silverado instrument cluster. Still wondering if this item requires any programming? Does anyone have suggestions on sources??

I was at adv auto parts today and the counter help said that he got one six months ago for his 05 Silverado and he was able to plug and play with the install as in he did not have to go to a dealer to have it programmed. He did state that they (supplier) asked him for the mileage so they did at least program that in. Since he said it was not hard to get in / out and since he has similiar symptoms I'm looking for a decent source. TIA.

sm11a1, if you have a chipped key then swapping out the IPC will involve a relearn procedure. It is not hard.

1) Turn key on (engine off), leave on for 10 minutes. During this time the theft light telltale will be flashing.
2) Turn key off for 30 seconds.
3) Repeat procedures 1 and 2 2 more times.
This should allow the IPC to relearn the passcode from the chipped key and all should be well. If you go to start the engine and it runs for a few seconds and dies, and the theft telltale is on or flashing, try repeating the procedure.
