Should I just buy a new battery? Sign In

Hello,

I'm new to the forum. I have a 2008 Pontiac G5. I bought my car, brand new, in April of 2008. I still currently have the factory ACDelco battery in it and haven't had any problems at all until now. I've always driven my car on a consistent basis, but lately with some personal issues, I haven't driven it in about a month. Went out to start it and the battery was dead. I jump started it and drove it around for a bit. The battery is in EXCELLENT physical condition and looks almost the same as it did when I bought the car. GM put the batteries in the trunk on these vehicles (I would assume to keep them from the elements and last longer). Should I just replace the battery or will it keep going as long as I drive it consistently?? I'm sorry if this is a dumb question.

I would have the battery tested to confirm its condition; but considering its age, it is likely time for a replacement.

Dan.

There's no dumb questions; it's the answer you need to worry about. LOL

take advantage of the time to start shopping - better to want a new battery than to NEED one

It's old enough IMO even if behaving.

NOTE: Unless all the rules changed a battery that is enclosed should be vented either the box it sits in or with tube(s) right on the battery to outside car! If not it might be a special gel cell battery and you won't like the price. I know they are mostly sealed but can't imagine they can totally control gasses or if it shorted out. It's in the trunk for weight most likely to balance the car better and more room but take long cables of course.

Laugh - it's OK that it's placed there. The real annoying spot used by some was/is under a back seat! Particular one I'm thinking of wasn't quick and easy to get to at all,

T
