Saving Computer Memory

I have a need to charge my cars Battery everyday and I have been using an Instant Power jump starter to hold the computer while the main battery is recharging, it works OK but it is a tiresome process. I am wondering if there is an easier way of holding the computer info. I have seen this memory saver which is just a 9 volt battery and a cigarette lighter plug, but unfortunately my lighter only works with the key on! so any other ideas would be appreciated. Remember the computer must be sustained for 2-3 hours not just a few minutes! Thanks

What vehicle and type? The 9v memory savers work but a problem if your power port is not ON when whole car/vehicle is off. Nothing can be on, no opening doors, hood lights with those and leaving key ON would draw too much for the small battery.
IDK what you want to do but can get an alternate or temporary power port for battery to do the same being VERY careful not to let disconnected battery cable ends touch ANYTHING FOR JUS THE TIME TO DO THE SWAP.
AYOR - some vehicles are not going to work properly unless done exactly right up to a real pest if they lose power for even cable cleaning,

Thanks for the advice Tom! It's a 2001 Mitsubishi Mirage and that sounds a lot like what I am using now! ..I have a rechargeable 12 volt Power jump starter and I put the alligator clips from it onto the battery cables except it's quite a chore being careful they don't come off! ..But from what you said it sounds like it's the only solution!

OK - I understand using a "jumper box" and do use them or now a whole powerful spare car battery and cables or a double male ended 12v power port jumper to a spot where back powering is NOT going to be in the way. You need to find Bat+ somewhere other than right at the battery that doesn't have the risk and power that will last that long and still wouldn't open a door.
Not buying more stuff for myself as long retired now. I think some types of code readers can save that and type/brands may or may not do that for long.
The clip on power port was just seen now yesterday at an Autozone and some come with battery maintainers/chargers either sold at parts outlets or sometimes department stores with a decent automotive section.
I'm more worried about the Euro cars for losing power totally than this car. Some of the BMWs and others go nuts, lock you out, radio and other functions all messed up without needing the dealer is the risk if lost total power which I suppose can happen with a broken something anyway too.
I would seek out the idea of one of those temp ports or with lots of thought add a power port if you want one at all that is properly fused and out of harm's way.
Story is for my own assorted stuff I put power ports in things from tractors to car trunks for the power right there for assorted reasons like 12v powered things of all types up to a small inverter to 110 current.
Not suggested for everyone is that I do use a car with a large trunk and can charge a spare battery from using the port in the trunk while driving let the car do it or many jumper boxes.
I WOULD NOT LEAVE KEY ON RUN POSTION FOR THIS for that long or even a short time without full real battery power. Long time things empowered and engine not running I can't say what items may or will be harmed?

Tom What exactly is a POWER PORT? and how would I install one for my situation. I have no nearby 110 volt AC outlet near the car, it's in a parking garage and I must charge the battery on my apartments porch six floors up!

That in assorted exact styles or a permanent one installed. RV, marine places are full of 12v stuff and somehow I'm a 12v junky. Have inverters that just push into these things with a car battery or better for indoor use (I'm a real nut with a gel cell at my feet right now in a kitchen) inverter, battery maintainer,12v extension cords and lighting as power goes out a lot where I live!
If you need to take battery out to get your 110 power for longer term reasons like charging a battery you should think about this for your car how to keep its memory with something more permanently installed.
Check out Wallyworld, Home centers (have to ask where they hide 12v stuff) and RV type places. Perhaps even Harbor Frieght type places as well?
Know this about the 12v plugs ends. Many will have a LED light that power is on AND are fused inside frequently with a glass fuse with such a low AMP rating it would blow and should if wiring isn't up to more load. I make them up - assorted stuff. Air compressors, power tools for assorted use and so on.
I understand your parking and limits without power right there. Sorry for the story but had to cut a lock off a storage bin (legally for family) in an underground garage which took forever and padlocks shouldn't be so easy but lost keys for that mess and couldn't use torches or get more wild. Basically needed a drill and no time to recharge battery ones.
Sorry for the novel here but have been and done tons of marine work on mostly my own small yachts that lack plain ports for things or most did.
Will be putting a power port on a new back hoe/front end loader just bought by a family member and doesn't have a port anywhere to back power it with a battery maintainer or use something up to charging a cell phone or device away from anything. That's in Maine and garaged with just an extension cord to where parked and left maintaining battery to peak 100% all the time both to help it and because it's also diesel so needs full power to start in Winter as it get used for snow also.
Seems like you get the idea. As said a "Gel Cell" at my feet right now. Reason for that is a "gel cell" can be tipped over and doesn't make gasses you don't want nor chances of leaking and wrecking things with acid.
Been a little while but check out places like Batteries Plus ( a chain store) for assorted stuff too as needed/wanted. Their site lacks so really better if you have one to go to.
Think hard when messing with any of this. Batteries, hydrogen gasses, proper wire gauge and type and always fuse things and duh, have spare fuses
In short, not maybe but with thought you can do exactly what you want and need for your parking situation AND be able to take battery out if you do this all up properly. For one time use just make up or use the clip on port,

Missed that and needs total attention first. If for any reason you need to jump start a car/vehicle every day it will kill a good charging system including battery.
Other is why doesn't the cig lighter or a power port in this car stay powered? It's possible to be made that way but doubt it was intended suggesting something was altered and may be the root cause of the problems,

Thanks Again Tom! Let me explain why I am doing this, so to calm everyone down! ...My car has over 280 thousand miles on it, and recently it developed an Oil seal leak that runs right down on the alternator and shorts it out! ...I have replaced it twice in one month (Yes it is a bad Oil seal leak) The reason I don't have that fixed, ..is because 4 different garages told me it will cost upwards of $600.00 to $700.00 that's more then the car is worth! ..So I have decided to use the car any way I can until I can get a new one which might be some time! Which means recharging the Battery every Day!
Also I am not JUMPSTARTING the car everyday, as you had mentioned in your last reply ..I am taking the Battery out and recharging manually, because the alternator is no longer working! ...I hope this explains the situation better!

That totally changes everything. Who cares about saving memory as it seems this car is doomed soon for another and you are just buying a little time to get another which I probably would and sooooon!
Even still with this trick working of charging the battery out and away from car it's not going to take that for long. I can't tell how long every car will run on just battery power without charging. ONE I was in, not mine lasted about 1 hour and was running a bit poorly right at the end when parked - scary in that case not the point but shut everything off but can't help needing an electric fuel pump and ignition alone was enough to lower voltage/amps available that fast on a known good battery by me!
If not to be fixed you are down to pot luck by the day doing what you are doing. Fix or make today's job finding another car,

Tom I have to care about saving the computers memory because when the battery is removed and then put back without holding the voltage, it can spend hours stalling and running rough until the computer re-programs itself ..something a man with only so many starts in his battery does not need! ..I can go about 50 miles a day before it needs a recharge and it seems to run fine for that period!

Understood, computer forgets its adaptive memory to hold idle in a range for the problems it once may have covered and doesn't run long enough to "re-learn" EVERY DAY. Now it's moot that, that problem, oil leaking and whatever it would take to fix all that YOU said exceeded this car's value. Done deal.
Start today as I already said looking for another car with a future, this one doesn't;t have one from the sounds of things,
