Wife has a 2001 Saturn SC1, 120,000 miles. Steady check engine light came on, havn't decoded it yet. Mechanical locks still work but electric locks suddenly no longer work. The drivers side door lock switches now seem loose, with no resistance behind them. I beleive passenger side switches seem loose as well. Checked all fuses in box under hood, and in console near passenger seat, none appeared to be blown. If it helps, no objects have dropped in 12V power recepticle to short it out. Havn't noticed any other symptoms. At one point I unplugged battery for a few minutes and reconnected. Check engine light went away for a while, but came back on after driving some. Electric door locks still didn't work. Any help is appreciated.

You have 2 different issues here and your not going to be able to guess at a reason for either of them. I believe you already know that you have to get the codes read for the check engine light issue and disconnecting the battery only serves to erase all the valuable diagnostic information. The door lock issue sounds a bit strange as there is nothing that will switches "seem loose". Someone needs to systematically troubleshoot the electrical circuit to find ther problem there. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
