Replacing PCM on 98 Isuzu	Sign In

98 Isuzu Rodeo. 2.2L 4 cyl engine. This vehicle has had an intermittent starting/running problem for a long time.

With much troubleshooting and throwing parts and money at the problem, it's finally been narrowed down to the PCM.

I can send the PCM in for repair/return for $319 plus postage - supposed to be refurbished and programmed with all the latest.

OR

I can get one from a slavage yard in Grand Prairie Texas for $65 with a 1 year warranty, which means that within a year, I can get another one from a wrecked/slavaged car if the first one doesn't work. What do I need to be aware of to avoid getting a replacement which isn' t programmed for my particular Rodeo? As I've been told that I need to have the same production series PCM as the one I'm replacing?

Anyone ANYONE who has ANY info or opinion on this issue please jump in.

Neither one of those options are very reliable. I'd say if that was the only choice i had, I would probably have yours repaired but I'm not thrilled about your chances either way.

You don't like a PCM out of a junk yard nor my having mine repaired/refurbished; what would you do?

My PCM is not encapsulated, if that makes any difference.

I'm still flippin a coin.

The first choice is always a brand new one.
