Rear light short Sign In

Rennult Magane, we have all seen yet seldom to ourselves, when following a car, any make or model, when lights are on and indicating and stopping, a fault appears, dimmimg and flashing all one side of light, dose not happen when main lights are off. First time in 20 yrs it has happened to me. It is not, foot brake switch, all wires in rear are or appear to be ok. I am at a loss,, plzz,, any idear's, some one must have experianced it.

That would likely be a ground problem with the light that is going off. The problem could be right in the bulb socket or further down the wiring but that light has insufficient ground.

Sounds like the light circuit for that/those light sockets have lost their dedicated ground?
What might be happening is that when the tail/headlights are off and the brake or signal is on. The circuit is finding ground through the taillight circuit; through the duel filament of the bulb; back feeding to the headlight switch; allowing the bulb to light. When you turn on the headlights; which supplies power to that portion of the circuit; the two powers cancel each other out and turns off all the lights.
To confirm this, have all the bulbs installed in their sockets; turn on both or all three (brake tail & turn) lights. Now with one end of a jumper wire connected to a known good ground; touch the side of the light bulb’s metal base, with the other end of the jumper. If the bulb lights that’s the problem, lack of ground for that circuit.
