I have a similar problem with my Golf. Like the previous poster, I came out of a store one day and was unable to unlock the doors of the car or disarm the alarm. We were able to open the hatch with the key and I had my child climb in and push the lock/unlock button near the cigarette lighter, that did nothing to unlock the doors or alarm and manually pulling the locks up did allow me to open the doors but the alarm kept going and the car wouldn't start.
So, we then disconnected the battery, and reconnected it and now I can start the car but I can't lock/unlock it or arm the alarm. The radio which is also connected to the alarm does work once the code is entered. The other strange thing is that the button near the cigarette lighter to lock and unlock the doors is now working, but the key still doesn't. Any suggestions, and is there anyway to disarm the alarm and have the door locks work. I don't really care about the alarm, but it would be nice to lock the car.
