Question about Engine Diagnostic Connector

Hello, Thanks in advance for any helpful answers to my question. I recently moved to a new city, and I'm trying to find a good mechanic that I can take my truck to if there is a problem. I have a 2007 Ford F150, 4.2L XL. I went to a mechanic to get my state inspection done, and he said his computer could not form a connection with my engine diagnostic computer. I left the truck at the shop, and he replaced a connector for $150, including labor. He pointed to the fuse box, near the passenger door, as containing the part that he replaced. Does this sound legitimate? Thank you.

Which connector was changed? What was wrong with the connector? Depending on the connector, $150 isn't far fetched. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I don't know the type of connector, I'll have to ask about that.
