Problems with 96 Merc Sable Hazard Lights

Year : 1996
Make : Mercury
Model : Sable LS
Engine Size : 3.0L V-6
146,000 miles
On my sable currently all four signals work when using the turn signal lever, however when attempting to use the hazards, only three work(front passenger does not work, indicator does not appear in dash either). However, if the turn signal lever is placed in the right turn direction, all four work without issue. I'm curious as to what parts I will likely need to replace, and to what difficulty it may be. I haven't tried anything as it was just inspected today, pointing me to the issue.

Sounds like a bad turn signal switch.

Thank you for the incredibly fast answer. I've already done some research to find the parts and tore into the steering column myself to see if it was possible for me to do. Hopefully all goes well. The only problem I can foresee is the lower access panel is held in place by the ignition switch and steering wheel adjustment lever. I suppose there is no way to remove it without taking out the switch. We'll see what happens.

Removal
- Disconnect battery ground cable.
- Tilt column to lowest position and remove key release lever.
- Remove ignition switch lock cylinder.
- Remove shroud screws and remove upper steering column shroud and lower steering column shroud.
- Remove two self-tapping TORX screws retaining multi-function switch to steering column tube casting. Disengage multi-function switch from casting.
- Disconnect the two electrical connectors.
Installation
- Install two electrical connectors to full engagement.
- Align multi-function switch mounting holes with corresponding holes in the steering column tube casting. Install two self-tapping TORX screws making sure to start the TORX screws in the previously tapped holes. Tighten to 2-3 Nm (17-26 lb-in).
- Install upper steering column shroud and lower steering column shroud with screws.
- Install ignition switch lock cylinder.
- Install key release lever.
- onnect battery ground cable.
- Check steering column tube and multi-function switch for proper operation.
