Power locks on an 89 s10 blazer Sign In

Hello everyone,
I have a 1989 s10 2 door Blazer. My power door locks using the drivers side has stopped working. The passenger side still works and also still controls the drivers side. But again, when using the drivers side switch it does nothing to either side. I thought the problem was the switch itself so I replaced it and it still has the same problem. Now I am thinking that it is a relay, so I bought one......but I can not seem to find where it is located on my truck so I can replace it!!!! Does anyone know exactly where this relay is located or have any other ideas on what may be causing the problem? Any help that you can give would be awesome! Thanks in advance.

Ok - place your bets! The power should go thru the driver's side switch first and on to passenger's side. Good guess is problem with driver's side switch itself right now,

As I mentioned in the post, I have already replaced the switch and the problem is still there. And yes, power is going through the switch.
Guess I won that bet. Any other ideas?
Thanks,

Driver's side switch AND the harness that connects it. The wires bend thru the door jam as you know but all would quit if main power supply line was broken there. Worth checking there though.

About the betting here. Just know that you have just Won 10 times what it cost you to join in the fun hereCool

Keep checking around. I'm fighting with locks on a 96 burp for a few months now! Touch anything and it will work all day then problem recurrs???? Wanna trade problems?

Re: Power locks on an 89 s10 blazer Sign In

I have checked the wires in the drivers kick panel and all are ok. The light blue wire and the black with white strip wire are the ones that carry the signals for the lock and onlock and they both show a signals when either the drivers or passenger doors switches are used. But the signal is different when the passenger door is used. Unfortunatly to this point I am just using a simple indacator light that shows power by probing the wires. I will try using a different tester today that will measure exactly how much power is going through the wires.
It is amazing how what I know is going to be something simple makes a person want to push their truck into the river!!!!Wink
I guess my big question is about the relay location. That is the only thing I can think it can possibly be, but again, it is more of a guess since everything else is checking out. I am sooooooo lost.

I don't know if that will click for you but it lists a relay for the locks but didn't give a location. Looks like an underdash type in the pic. That's a $30 gamble and for some reason I don't think that's it. I'm not to sure how to go about checking but the driver's switch cuts the others off when it gets touched so it is the master. Same for windows - if a passenger is selecting one way and driver another the driver should win. If this locks out all passenger's controls there might be something there but not usually for the locks.

I'll meet you at the river's edge pretty soon with the one I'm working with. WTF do you do when it starts to work properly with something and you haven't replaced anything?? I swear some of this stuff was designed by the folks that make Christmas lights - you know - lay them out to find the bad bulb and they all come on agian. Arggh! In the burp the master switch is $100 and if I do replace that I won't even know if that was it till they stay working for a few days - you know the feeling.

If this Blazer has a remote (key chain type) that can screw up the show too and in the burp that fixed the problem for a few days and back again. If you have that - it's up over gas pedal like the size of a fat deck of cards thing - not too expensive and in my case couldn't be bypassed or the barn door back wouldn't work - how special??Crazy
