I have a 1957 Chevy that's been restored. It has a 327 engine and nothing fancy. Distributor w/ points (no electronic ignition or anything), simple old wiring system. My question is I could be driving and the car suddenly goes completely dead. No dome light, nothing. Won't crank over. I could try it the next day and the starter will turn over and start the car. Very intermittent. I changed the battery (bought a new one) and the same thing. I've checked the wiring looking for loose connections but can't find anything obvious. Any suggestions? I've got the battery disconnected and I'm charging it now. I did find a loose alternator wire (the large red terminal), not too loose though. I tightened it. Waiting for the battery to charge now. Thanks!

Check the cable connection and fusible links at the starter. Also check the ground cables. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
