New alternator will not charge battery

I have a 1998 dodge 5.9L 1 ton 3500 2wd van, with 106,000 miles on it. When the volt meter indicated that the battery was not charging I checked the battery found a dead cell and put in a new oem battery. When this didn't solve the problem I replaced the alternator. The charging system worked for a short time then quit again. The voltage is regulated by the on board computer. I have checked the alternator and tried several new ones but no change. Could the on board computer need to be changed. I am reluctant to keep throwing money at this problem based on guesses. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Disconnect the plug-in terminal at the alternator; connect a test light across the green and orange wires in the connector. Start the engine and the test light should light after about a two or three second delay. If not then the problem is likely in the computer or the wiring between the computer & the alternator. To confirm which you would need to again connect a test light between the orange and green wire terminals at the computer. If the test light still doesn’t light; then the problem is inside the computer, as long as the computer is receiving all of its inputs. Make sure all fuses are tested with a test light; that will confirm that there is continuity through them. Dan. Canadian "EH"
