All Im wondering is what is the range of ohms and voltage on the water temperature sensor from lowest to highest on all makes and models or every year. So if I took a voltmeter to every car, truck, bus, limo, etc. ever made, what would be the lowest and highest readings I would get at normal operating conditions? Oh one more thing do all vehicle temperature sensors have two wires? (One for hot and one for ground) Because I may be mistaken, but I seem to recall seeing one with only one wire before. I assume the temperature sensor receives a certain a voltage into the sensor and depending on the heat the sensor is at the resistant changes and the wire going out to the gauge on the dash board moves up and down according to the drop in voltage. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm just going off my basic knowledge of electronics. But if this is the case and a temperature sensor with only one wire does exist, how does that one work. But you know I may be thinking of the O2 sensor with the one wire. Sorry to the newbish questions, I'm trying to build something for my high school science fair. Thank you for your time.

When you see a one wire sensor, it's most likely not the sensor but the sender for the temp gauge or some type of temp switch for a fan or something. They are grounded through the block reducing voltage which is what it's reading. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

So the values are universal for a automobiles? My uncle was telling me every one was different for every car. He said thats why you need different temperature sensors for each make and model. If that picture your showing me there is the universal ohms for all makes and models it sure would make my job a lot easier.

No, I believed he is right. I think that this one may have been for Ford. Most of them are alike but like everything else, there are exceptions. Do a Google search for Sensor resistance charts and you will find a lot of info.
