hi all, my old toyota is still working but the other day my dash lights went out, thus no light on the odometer nor the rpm reader, nor gas tank meter, no lights at all it is pitch balck at night.... I did a visual check on the fuses and found nothing wrong , is there anything else I can check out ....Thank you

Should be a rheostat for adjusting brightness of instrument lamps. Try turning it both directions. Sometimes, the contacts just get dirty. Should be a fuse for instrument lamps. Take the fuse out and physically check it. Or, use a test light while it's in the holder with the headlamps on. You should have power to both sides of the fuse. It is entirely possible that you've lost ground connection to the instrument cluster, but test the basics, first.

I did finally realize yesterday that by turning the dim light the lights came on, I re checked all fuses with a flash light and they were OK.... as you say in your reply it could be a bad connection, I will look into that when I get some good weather as right now it is pretty cold out here in NJ.... Thanx for your response.

It's probably just a dirty rheostat. They get that way from lack of use. It's pretty rare that we change the adjustment, so they 'sit' in the same position for years...Just cranking the knob back and forth may 'fix' it. If not, you'll have to replace the switch. Good luck, have a great weekend.
