Mazda B2600 fuse issue and more! Sign In

Hello all,

I have a 92' Mazda B2600 in the 2.6L 2WD. Its just passed 96k about a week ago and now Im starting to have a interesting issue! It started off as a single blown fuse last winter which wasnt a big deal, these things happen. But this year, or more precisly 2 days ago, it blew the same fuse from a year ago twice in the same day. I assumed it might be that the wiring is simply wet or some other non issue like that. I have since then not replaced this fuse since the most crucial feature it governs in my turn signals, oil temp gauge, and rpm gauge.

But then last night when I went out to start it up to drive home and turned on my lights, I realized the lights were significatly dimmer then they had been at any time in the past. Then I also noticed the heater which was turned up high enough to be able to hear it when working, wasnt blowing out as much air as it normally would (was on 'III' setting but only pushing as much air as 'I' setting). The only end to this issue has been that as soon as I pull off and hit second gear, the lights come back to a appropriate brightness and the heater will begin to work as it should. This was once again a issue when I went out to go to work as well as when I was coming home from work today!

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am by no means even a amature mechanic. Ill do my best to answer any other questions anyone might have about this situation. Thanks in advance!

Intermittent stuff is a hair puller for sure. Of course if you test stuff when working it will mean little unless there's burned or chaffed wires that you can see.

Dim lights could be a separate issue. Some alternators will develop sticking "brushes" - which are spring loaded contacts inside and snap out of it?? I'm leaning towards an ignition switch issue or trouble in steering column especially if this uses a multi-function switch but would be digging myself until it would stay broken!

It would be easier to pin down if fuse blew instantly of course. Whatever you do use the right # fuse not a stronger one! Some salvage yards will let you fill a coffee can with fuses from wrecks to save you some bucks in fuses till this will stay broken!
