METER 10A Fuse keeps blowing

1997 Nissan Sentra GXE 1.6L

So what happened was that the car had shut down on me while driving, so i took the battery to Auto-Zone and charged it and the car started up fine.
when we got it back home my dad took the pulse off the battery and the car had turned off so we thought the alternator was bad and we got it replaced
but even when we put that in the car it still did the same thing.

So we went back to Kragen got another one and still the car will not stay on without the battery after the car has been started.

But it makes since because without the METER fuse which im guessing has some connection to the CHARGING battery system.

(Battery is brand new,alternator is new) Unsure so what do you think?

Tell your dad that this is not a 1950’s vehicle and too stop removing the battery terminal while the vehicle is running or you’ll be into real problems with burnt out electronics. Notice the plural on the word electronic?
Want to see if the alternators working; get a voltmeter connected to the battery. With everything off, including the engine; take a voltage reading. Start the vehicle and take a second voltage reading. If the charging system is working you should see a 2-3 volt increase.
I don’t understand what you mean in your post’s title Meter 10 amp fuse blowing; not once in the post did you mention a burnt out fuse; just your dad disconnecting the “pulse off the battery”? I’m assuming you mean battery post; maybe take a little longer and repost your question. Remember that we can’t see your vehicle and we have to go by your text to visualize what you’re talking about.

Unsure Just to let you know removing the + or - side of the battery when the car is already started should do no harm to the car if the alternator was charging the battery like it should be.

What did i mean by pulse?



But what I mean is that when the - or + side is removed the car will die if it has already been started, which any car should do.. if it does not then its usually your alternator is bad. (At least that's what i learned in my years of car problems.)

The alternator was already tested at a Kragen before installed and after install at Auto-Zone (When it was tested at Kragen it had a good volt between "13 - 15". (But this was when it was not in the car)
After the alternator got installed, I drove the car back up to Auto-Zone for a test to find out the volt of the alternator, there test said the alternator failed. But how can that be? it was tested before the alternator was put in the car?

So I believe that the METER 10A fuse has to do with the Alternator's charging system to the battery. because if i was to leave the battery plugged up to the car it will not be re-charged by the alternator. (and don't say get another alternator we already changed it 2 times.)

Just for a visual the METER FUSE looks like these.



If you look at this picture you will see why i believe this METER 10A fuse is connected to the alternator in some way.





Without this meter fuse my whole cluster will not work (besides headlights,dash lights,hazard lights etc) the radio is working fine. But i have no gas,temp, or speed meters (no other lights or anything will appear on the cluster)

This meter 10 amp fuse keeps blowing everytime i replace it (it does not blow right when i put it in) only when i insert the key and turn it into "ACC" you will see the cluster begin to turn on but then you hear a click (the fuse being blown) and then the cluster will die.

I have already removed the cluster and the fuse still blows so it's not the cluster.

(Alternator is bought from Kragen it's one of these)

That theory may have worked in the '60s and '70s but in today's computer cars, you can fry a couple thousand dollars worth of control modules in a heartbeat by doing that. NEVER disconnect the battery of a running car.

If you know better sir then you go right a head; its obvious you don’t want to take heed to a warning.

LMAO....2 seasoned techs with probably 70 years (or more)experience between them and you are going to try to justify doing a totally reckless & dangerous procedure as normal & ok????

Actually I know what you mean........I've been smoking for years & my doctor tells me it's bad for me....... What the hell does he know, I feel fine....


For anyone else following this thread.........

DO NOT REMOVE A BATTERY CABLE WHILE THE CAR IS RUNNING!!!!!!!

you will be playing Russian roulette with you electronics.. Something "bad" probably won't happen everytime, or even most of the time....but when it does happen...it will be expensive...........
