MAF/IAT resistor mod ripoff.. Need help Sign In

 Hello,

I have a few important questions regarding those ripoff MAF/IAT resistor mods.

Long story short I bought into one without much research and installed it about two weeks ago. I put about 100 miles on the car, 2013 mazdaspeed 3, before I realized the acceleration was a little slower, fuel economy was worse, and when I got into the acceleration it would give out a little bit and pick back up and repeat.

Well I decided to cut it out since it came with suitcase connectors and I couldn't just disconnect it. My acceleration still doesn't seem like it did when I got the car but it does seem better. I have ran it about 120 miles since I have uninstalled the mod.

My questions are these:

1. Will my car ever go back to feeling as smooth as it did when I first bought it a month and a half ago?

2. The suitcase connectors are still attached to the wiring that is attached to the connector that plugs into the IAT. Will this void my warranty if a Mazda repair shop opens up the hood?

---> 3. If so, is there anyway I can replace that wiring and harness or would it be a very expensive thing for a shop to do?

On another forum, a member mentioned that the "mod" might have completely made the ECU go into a safe-mode type setting and ignore the maf/iat sensor all together, and that I should disconnect the battery for about a half-hour and reconnect it and hope the ECU starts to read the maf/iat sensor. This makes sense, I was wondering if theres any other way to reset the ECU to factory settings also? I will be trying the battery disconnect later today

You might be able to get a the MAF/IAT pigtail from the dealer. You might also find one in the salvage yard. Other Mazdas and Fords may use the same connector and wiring.

Once you have the wiring repaired, you will probably need to reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery for several minutes to clear the keep alive memory out.

You shouldn't leave those scotch lock connectors on there. Those are not environmentally sealed and you'll find later that your wires have corroded.

Discretesignals,

Thanks for the quick reply. I was wondering if you know of anyway I can find the actual part number on that pigtail? I search and haven't had any luck.

If they sell the pig tail, you might be able to find the part number by talking to the parts department at your local dealer.

Just wanted to update since I finally got the time to get to a shop. And wanted to make sure I didn't leave the thread open.

They took off the suitcase connectors and saw that one of the wires was damaged. Some of the strands were sliced in half from the connector. What they did was soldered the broken wire and wrapped the wires back up so it looks factory.

As far as I could tell on the ride back, the problem seemed to be fixed but more driving will be sure to tell.

It's good they actually soldered and sealed those connections. I have never been a fan of scotch locks or plier taps. We'll keep this thread open for you. Thanks for following up.
