My speedometer, gas gauge, temperature gauge lights etc. no longer work. This makes driving at night nearly impossible. Also, the lights on the air control knobs do not light up either. My blinkers and hazards only work sometimes, I have to turn the switch several times and eventually they will come on. However, my cigarette lighter and radio still work. Also, other lights on my speedometer light up such as “ABS” and “check gauges” words still light up when necessary. Even my dome light switch still works. One night I had left my car window down and had a good amount of rain in the car. When driving about a week later I heard a weird noise coming from the steering column and my speedometer lights and everything listed above went out. Could water have ruined some wiring in the steering column? I have checked all the fuses and they are fine. Please give me some ideas as to what the problem could be and how I could fix this. Driving at night with the car is impossible because of no lights besides those coming from the stereo. 97 Chevy Cavalier 2.2 160,000 Miles

Sounds like the Multifunction Switch is faulty. Controls the Headlamp Functions,as well as the illumination of the instrument panel lamps,Turn Signals,Hazard Lamps,Cruise control if equipped.
