2004/GMC ENVOY 106,000 MILES CAR HESITATES WHEN STARTING. THEN WHEN RUNNING IF YOU SWITCH THE HEAT TO DEFROST (WINDSHIELD) THE CAR LOSSES ALL POWER AND STALLS OUT. WHILE THE CAR IS STALLING OUT THERE IS A WHINING NOISE THAT COMES FROM THE REAR OF THE CAR.

A scenario that could explain this is the fuel pump is failing and the connection between defrost and the initiation of the problem could be the extra load of the A/C coming on as it can with the defrost request. The noise is quite possibly the fuel pump which is in the gas tank.

I'd get a pressure reading on the fuel pump AND listen hard for where the noise originates. You really shouldn't hear a big change in the pump in any circumstance - just the normal buzz that they do make,

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP. I WILL DEFINATELY CHECK THAT FIRST. MY GUT WAS TELLING ME THAT IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP BUT AUTO ZONE SAID IT WAS ELECTRICAL.

Certainly test things out to be as sure as you can. Wiring to fuel pumps has been trouble with corrosion but doesn't really account for the noise.

Fuel pressure test in conjuction with a volt reading with assorted item pu on would be informative and there might be more than just one thing going on here,
