1990 Mitsu Montero 3L V6 140k
This problem started not long after having a tuneup. First occurred when went somewhere & when got back into car after about 45 minutes it wouldn't start for longest time. I sat, waited, kept trying... Finally it started.
As the battery was 'iffy' I bought a new one... had same problem again. Would ran ok a couple times...then be hard to start the next time...
...Now it won't start at all.
I notice that the engine keeps cranking for a little bit even after I let off & key goes to 'run' or even toward the 'off' position...
...SO(!) I ordered a new ignition switch & installred it assuming that HAD to be the issue. I mean...cummon...what else could it be?? Did the same thing after replacing the ignition switch, so I returned the switch & put the original one back on.
All (regular fuse box) fuses I can see look ok.
Someone suggested that it was possibly the starter...but...it cranks over fine...except for the residual cranking after releasing key...
Would a bad starter/solenoid prevent the engine from firing even though it's cranking-over fine?

Ignition switch would have been the least likely. I'd put my money on the starter for the cranking issue.
As far as the not starting, your going to have to determine whether it's losing spark, fuel pressure or injector pulse when it happens.
