I have a 96 Camero 3.8 v6. I love this car, however, It has me stumped due to what seems to be a timing issue. It runs like crap and sounds like its only hitting 3 cylndrs. would anything electrical cause my car to bog down, choke , and sputter? there isn't a distribitor to adjust the timing I have the firing order right , plugs are gaped right and no vac leak that I can find. Could it be the relay's and where would I find them? Man down !!! Personal info deleted

Ignition timing is engineered in and can't change. You could have misfires that could be caused by any number of things like the coils, ignition module, wires, plugs, injectors, wiring, compression, etc, etc.

Check engine light on? If so, what codes are being stored?

Thank you for your replies... I can't get any codes off this thing due to the port is damaged. This is something I didn't check before I bought the car. Live and learn and let this be your lesson for those of you who haven't gone through this... thanks

Fix the data link first. You can't do anything without access to the computer.

If it's just the plug that you need, the same plug has been used on every car made since '96. If you have wire damage that needs to be spliced, then get it from another GM so the wires match. It's just a plastic plug so I don't see why the dealer isn't an option anyway.

Just make sure that you solder and heat shrink your wiring. Disconnect the battery. You don't want to be shorting out data link com circuits.
