Re: Instrument Cluster 1988 GMC S15 Manual Tran Sign In

let me restate so at least I am clear on issue-

1988 GMC S15 a rebadged s10 pickup I mention that as information and parts are more likely found for the chevy.

Your issue - no dash lights- no gauges and the CEL will not flash when jumpig ALDL? Is that right?

I would ask about your comfort level with a test light or DVOM?

And the obvious - have you checked fuses?

Re: Instrument Cluster 1988 GMC S15 Manual Tran Sign In

?? OK, it's old with miles of plenty. No power to dash items or radio but runs.

I'd start with not just knowing fused INSIDE are good but that they have power when they should right at that fuse box. Plain test light only so far.

? again. IDK but if power at the fuses for items that don't work on to checking grounds. I think whole dash just relies on being bolted to body metal and on from there.

Would be rare but I go those back when. Rubber block at under the hood firewall originally was just a bunch of male + female spade connections and tons of a white grease by now all crusty. I think just one bolt and it pulls off with all it's wires to interior and right at fuse box which is inside. Am I close so far?

Was an '88 by chance GM van it that case. All kinds of kooky interior things all at once didn't work and the problem was right there. Grease was NG must have allowed moisture in but no real corrosion noted.

Road call now less and just gave the male spades a very slight twist with needle nose to be tighter, reinstalled and voila - all worked and never heard from that person again so must have worked.

That was just dumb luck but had dietetic grease with me and by chance when no power found inside checked outside that did prompted me to go looking.

I'll blame that one on what was like OE bubble gum off white thick grease that turned hard and nothing more. Costs nothing to check if that lines up with fuse testing,

T
