Ignition prob on 1998 chevy van 1500

heres the problem, we lost our key, so my husband tore the ignition apart and has to be started with a screw driver, the van starts for a second the shuts down when he lets go of the screw driver. The little black wire from the ignition the the harness the plastci burned off. Any thoughts on what might be the problem? Thanks
