Hyundai Accent Brake Light and Back Up Lights on at the same time Sign In

My Daughter In-Law brought over her 2000 Hyundai Accent because of a problem pulling the shifter out of park. I found out that this car locks itself in park when the brake lights don't work, but there is an override switch under the shifter bezel that can be accessed by popping off a little plastic button and pushing a pen down inside the hole. Once the override switch is pushed you can then shift the car out of park and drive away, the only thing is that now there are no brake lights.
Later I found a blown fuse and replaced it witch at the time solved the brake light problem and also allowed the car to shift normally without pushing the override switch. Since the blown fuse was replaced with the only spare fuse I had at my disposal I instructed my Daughter In-Law to drive down the local auto parts store and purchase more fuses.
After replacing the blown fuse with a good one and at least got the car to shift normally I noticed that now when the brake is applied the brake light and the back up light illuminate at the same time. Also I got a text from my Daughter In-Law telling me she had to replace the same fuse 3 times just in one day.
The car drives normal so I don't think there is a problem with the mechanics of the transmission, I think it must be some kind of electrical problem, but I guess I could be wrong.
So what do you think would be the next course of action?
Thank you in advance for your help.

You have an electrical short in the brake light circuit somewhere. that is the reason the fuse is put there. Someone is going to have to find the short which may not be easy since it is intermittent. Check all the wiring to the rear lights and look for any bare wires that may be touching the body.
