The headlights are very, very dim. I disconnected the battery while the engine was running but the engine kept running. Alternator must not be out. What should I check? Alternator must not be out.<<" FOLKS, THAT TEST WAS FOR BRAINLESS TESTING DURING THE EISENHOWER ADMINISTRATION! For this thread, now there's probably lots more to worry about that blew than dim headlight problem which was probably just a weak ground common to both. Arggh!
