1999 GMC Sierra 1500

I was driving and the truck just killed. Got it home and it was turning over but would not start. Did the simple testing of listening for the fuel pump and heard nothing. Did hear the relay click when I turned on the key. Took out the relay and the results are in the picture. Basicly I got 2 to 3 sec of power off the + control and tested the - Neg and it acts correct. went to test the power always on 87 and found that there is no power getting to that point of the relay. checked the fuse on the ECM B and found that the +pos was supplying power and lit up the light on the probe. soooooo... Im thinking something under the fuse box panel. Thanks for any further suggestions. :)

If you have power on one side of the ECM B fuse and not the other, then you obviously have a bad fuse.

If you have power on both sides of the fuse, but no power to pin 87 on the relay, you probably have something going on inside the underhood electrical center. You might have to lift up and look underneath. Inspect for melted terminals.

Re: Fuel Pump, ECM B Fuse, Eletrical or mechanical? Sign In

ok.. to clarify what I did... on the ECM B Fuse i probe tested the left side of the socket and got a light. I thought this told me that the fuse was getting power. I check the fuse and it was good but decided to put a fresh one in just in case. The diagram said that 87 went to the ECM B fuse but last night I pulled the Fuse box up and noticed that 87 actually goes to the PCM and not directly linked to the ECM B fuse. Further research I found that the PCM provides a constant 12v power to the FP Relay on 87. So if im not getting power to 87 then the problem must lie in the wire from 87 to the PCM or, please no, the PCM its self.

This is a picture of the Relay itself. Thanks again to both of you for your input.

No, you were right the first time. 87 is the power supply from the ECMB fuse. Where you may be getting confused is the layout of the pins on those small rectangular relays. They work diagonally and not across the ends.

Im going to start with the cheap parts like the fuel filter, which has not been changed since before 2005, and the relay and even that fuse to see what happens.

You won't find your problem by randomly throwing parts at it. \

PS, that appears to be a bulkhead connector, not a fuse box in your picture.

Well the fuel filter needed replacement anyway so why not. As for the picture it is the underside of the Under hood Fuse Box. Its the Black Box. There is a green one and a white one and some other color but the black one is where the fuse is.

I seriously doubt that is a fuse box. There is no buss bar.

OK, that picture is one of the many modular plugs that go into the fuse box but have no correlation to what they feed inside. The is absolutely no question that the ECM B fuse feeds that relay from within the fuse box. There are no wires involved. If you have other ideas, then go ahead and try them. I don't intend to debate with you about this.

My deepest apologies for upsetting you... It was not my intentions. I did not in anyway want to debate it with you. was just showing you what I was seeing.... see... Im an amature at this..... I dont know what these parts are called. I can tell you every part of a camera.... I can tell you about paints and how to weld. I know how to pick colors and fix lots of things.. the main reason I came to this site is because I felt I was talking with people who are more educated than me... I was trying to understand what I was looking at.... but... seems I have made you mad at me... sorry.

This was a very simple thing to troubleshoot and you were given the way to diagnose it in one of the first responses but you have insisted in not listening. Either the fuse is delivering power or it isn't. Test both sides of the fuse and the relay pin and find out where the power is lost.

Are the tie wraps something you did while you were under the electrical center. Cause if not, someone has been in there before.
