Truck would try to start on it's own with no key in it, and then it would make an odd ticking noise that seemed to come from behind the instrument panel. Now it's completely dead.

anyone able to help me out.

thanks!

I am thinking there is a fault in the ignitions switch. There could of been a short in it making contact for a few seconds, enough to get it to crank. I think by doing this the truck has flattend the battery. I would buy a new igntion, and get my battery checked. this is a very strange problem, I would pay the money to get my ignition checked before you buy one, they aint cheap to replace.

What year is this truck? Ford had a huge recall on ign switches that shorted out for no reason at all - even in unattended vehicles. Make things interestingCrazy

It's a 1999

the ignition switch was replaced once already when a similar problem came up. It was fine for a few years, and now it's acting up again.

Just checked and that problem seemed to be over with model year 93 but who knows? If it happened before I would go right back to the same place and this time replace any harness plug as that may have been the problem or is damaged now.

All bets off it this thing has a remote start or some aftermarket gadget wired into it,
