Electronic Ignition Upgrade Sign In

Year:1967
Make:Ford
Model: Mustang
Motor:289
Automatic Tranmission
Mileage:100K Rebuilt Motor

I am trying to replace a vintage 67 mustang 289 motor with an Duralast electronic distributor. This was recommended by the AutoZone sales person. The unit that was provided was BDLG-FD30. The unit came with no wiring diagram. It has a 3 wire oval plug with two of the wire going to what I believe to be a coil in the distributor. The third black wires goes to the chasse ground. Looks like permanent magnet revolves in front producing a pulse for the ignition coil. I can find no combination to make this unit work....Does this unit need a firing module? any help would be appreciated..

Hmmm...

You only have a part of the system. That is an old duraspark distributor. You need the ignition module and the coil. The coil might need an external ballast resistor also.

Inside the distributor is a stator or pickup that the module uses to determine when to fire the ignition coil. There is no coil inside that distributor.
