Search Auto Parts Search Electrical problem Sign up here!   Email This Post Auto Repair Home>> Automotive Repair>> Automotive Wiring and Electrical bizzarobrian New User Feb 9, 2012, 1:16 AM Post #1 of 5 (2095 views) Electrical problem Sign In I drive a 1996 Chief Cherokee Laredo & I`m having weird electrical problems.Dash board indicators will come even when I don`t have a problem.Sometimes the interior lights will come on by themselves & sometimes I can hear my door lock open & close periodically.Now my oil gauge doesn`t work.I know my alternator is having problems as it shows a fail on the meter but the battery is fine.Would the alternator be the source of all these problems? I`m getting the alternator replaced tomorrow & I`m really praying that it`s the source of my other problems.Can you advise me on this? Other wild guesses are an alarm gone wild, buttons on door panel got soaked, wires in door jam may be shorted. Oil pressure alone not working is probably sender wire with a poor connection on the engine. If remote for opening doors is all mixed up that could explain interior lights AND door locks going nuts, T bizzarobrian New User Feb 9, 2012, 9:15 AM Post #3 of 5 (2039 views) Re: Electrical problem Sign In The question you asked I have no answer.A friend tested the battery & alternator for me.The battery passed but showed a fault in my alternator.Are you suggesting that possibly the problems I`m having are being caused by a short in the door? It may be capable of working but only partially. Unless wiring all over the place is hacked up I don't know how that relates to power locks, or interior lights? A long stretch is that somehow wires going thru a rubber snorkel in usually driver's door jam are messed up and if lights stay on or a short there funky things can happen, drain the battery perhaps which in turn can be real hard on the alternator to charge back up or kill it. Just start hunting for things out of line if lucky enough to see a flaw somewhere?
