Electrical problem 2004 Mercury Sign In

With no previous electrical problems, my 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis blew fuse # 23, new fuse blew as soon as it made contact. I have no digital dash, no heat or A/C control no interior lights, this fuse has the EATC module on it as well as the other items mentioned. Any suggestions???Mad

Considering you know what is on that fuses circuit; start disconnecting the different units on the circuit, working your way back to the fuse panel.

What I’ve done with dead shorts to ground, blowing fuses; is to get an older style sealed beam headlight and connect it to the fuse panel where the fuse would normally go.
Use a couple of jumper wires between the headlight terminals and the fuse box terminals.
Once connected the headlight will light but because of its size, it can handle the current flow and not hurt anything. The only caution I have is the headlight will become hot; which is normal for a headlight; just don’t lay it on the seat or something that could melt. Now start disconnecting things on that circuit, until the headlight goes out or becomes very dim.
It saves on a lot of fuses and it makes it a lot easier during the test; looking for the light to go out; once it does, you’ve found the problem.

Thanks for the great fuse replacement tip. By using it I was able to track the problem to the LCM. However in my non-electrical mind I'm thinking the problem could be in any of the circuits that connect to the module, or the module its self Unsure. I guess the easiest thing would be to replace the module and hope for the best.
