Digital odometer intermittent outage

The digital odometer on my wife's 1998 Pontiac Sunfire goes out for long periods of time. Then it will come back on very briefly, sometimes only for a day or less before it goes out again. The tally mechanism is still working, it is presumably just the backlight and LCD readout that is having a problem.
Is there a fuse that I should check, or is this likely a faulty wire that can be spliced or replaced?

IMO,the problem is internally in the cluster.
The cluster would need to be removed and sent out to an authorized repair facility for repairs or replaced.
An authorized facility would need to program a new clusters mileage to match existing mileage of the vehicle.
Thats my opinion
