97 Buick Park Ave. Battery too weak to start car but when key was turned caused the gauges needles to go haywire and pegged needle on gas and temp don't work after battery was replaced. Needles pegged all the way to the right, way past "E" on gas and "C" on temp gauge. ???

Make sure the ignition is turned off. Take the cluster out and turn it upside down, so the gauges go back to there stops pegs. This happens on those air core gauges when they experience low voltage when powered up.

Thanks for your reply. How involved is getting the cluster out - scale 1 -10 ??? Or is it recommended to take to a Buick dealer rather than just a local shop ? Any idea what it would cost? I can get by using the electronic fuel range for the gas. Not sure what to do without the temp gauge. Is there an idiot lite warning that also lights when over heating? Thanks for any advise.

For an experienced mechanic it would probably be a 1. A novice maybe 3. An independent shouldn't have any problems and it would probably be cheaper. There might be a warning for overheating in the driver's information window, but can't be sure.

It is going to be all labor. Labor time is 1.4 hours times what ever shop labor rate is.
