Dashboard lighting problem

When I turn the car on with healights off the dashboard lights turn on. Then when I turn the headlights on the dashboard lights turn off, and wont go back on until I turn the headlights go back off. What is the problem here? The car is a 2006 Lexus. Thanks.

Check the dash light dimmer control. It's probably turned off.
