The gauges in my dashboard do not function once the car is started. They work and give the proper reading at the time the car is started, but they do not update throughout the duration the car is running. The speedometer and tachometer work properly, however all other gauges exhibit this behavior. For example, I start the car with 3/4 tank of gas and the gauge reads appropriately, however after driving for 100 miles, the gauge does not move. Once I turn the car off and then back on again, the gauge will read appropriately 1/2 full (for example). Another example: when I start the car for the first time in the morning, the engine thermometer gauge reads all the way cold. However, it will not move throughout the duration of the drive. When I stop the car, then turn it back on, it will read appropriately half way (or so). Final example: I have the trunk open before starting the car. I start the car (the trunk ajar light is on) and then close the trunk and the light stays on. I have to turn off the car then turn it back on and the light is off.
This is very strange. Does anyone have any idea what the problem is and how to fix it?

The BCM is the controller that sends the info to the IPC for all the failed gauges you describe, the BCMs have a notorious failure record on that year L series, they are not plug and play, they need to be programmed. To diagnose this problem you need a scan tool capable of communicating with all the controllers, there should be multiple codes of no communication with the BCM
