Year of vehicle: 2002
Make of vehicle: Mercury
Model of vehicle: Mountaineer
I really have no clue what is wrong with my car, all I know is that these cords are hanging out and usually that is never good.
I know my A/C never works so we always keep the windows down, and the led display on the stereo is really low to not on most of the time.

Here are some pictures of the cords, NOTE: They are hanging next to the front left tire.

New pics will be posted shortly, I looked closer and noticed that what was in the first picture included a lawn ornament... the one with the glass ball in it. I feel pretty stupid now. But, there is still a cord hanging down...

From that picture I have no idea what that rats nest is made of but you obviously need to find out and not drive it that way. It may be part of your truck or it may just be something you picked up on the street.

Should I just take it in to a repair shop and have them take a peak at it or should I just look around more and see if I can find what it is... + I don't believe I just "picked it up" because, it is connected to the car pretty good.

+ Any pictures you guys need to figure this out would be added... I am completely clueless here...

You can't be driving around with that stuff dangling around a rotating and turning wheel. Something is going to get caught up and damaged.

Please tell me then what pictures you need or what I should do to determine what exactly is wrong with this...

You can try taking a closer, clearer picture but you really need someone knowledgeable to inspect the truck and see if there is any damage.

Getting this inspected will be tons faster than figuring it out via pics and a web site. Seems like it's not just wires somehow. Don't drive it like that. Tie them up out of harms way at least if the vehicle drives properly also and get this looked at.

Best guess and I mean GUESS is ABS stuff and perhaps to do with fan(s) . Basically not very sure without looking right at it and I won't bother to ask how this happened.

Forget the radio as I do doubt this has anything to do with that. Watch for other problems like overheating if you do drive this,

I honestly think it may be the ABS, when i drove it the ABS light was on... should it be on or off?? Plus, it felt really easy to accelerate when I was driving...

If so, do you think I could fix it? The wire is obviously broken off so I would need to connect it somehow...

I kind of figured that. Insulate any exposed wire ends and plugs and still get this inspected and put back in place with proper holders repaired and any breaks fixed real well as it's exposed to the elements of course. Expect some stuff to be broken - still have to guess as said already,

Ok, thank you very much... and by insulate I just use electrical tape and cover the wires? + Is there no other way for me to fix it myself?

Re: Cords hanging/What's Wrong? Sign In

Can you fix it yourself? I can't know what your capabilities are. It's hard to believe that at a minimum the connections are fine nor what held all this in place that in normal conditions wouldn't let this happens so whatever caused it need be known too if unknown I'd find a reason or something I can't think of right now is all wrong and it could do this again.

It's just stuff to put back where it belongs so far and fasten up as said. Any wiring that is damaged to be properly fixed meaning soldered, shrink wrapped up. If damaged enough IDK how easy a new section would be to get??

Doesn't matter as the problem is there but how the heck did this happen?

If all that mess was really part of your car, then I seriously doubt you are going to repair anything. At this point you can't even identify what it is.
