Hi, I would like to know I have a 1993 Mazda Protege and this is the 3rd Ignition Control Unit Module I've put in. Would there be a reason why they keep breaking down. I have not tried a new one, maybe that is the problem put the last one I tested came from a working Mazda. I was able to start the car for about 15-20 minutes then it just went dead again. Each time I changed that piece the car started once for 2 days it work then again it broke down. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated Thanks

There are a lot of reasons why an ignition module could repeatedly fail; these are just a few. Excessively high system voltage as in the alternator is over charging the battery. A poor connection allowing the module to become disconnected repeatedly until it fails. An open ignition wire, forcing secondary ignition coil voltage (spark) to back feed the system striking the module. It may not even be the ignition module but another component that you are disturbing while you’re changing the module. Allowing it to come back on line until engine vibration or heat causes it to fail or a connection to go open. The test procedure is fairly extensive, along with the use of some specialty equipment, like a break out box to perform pin checks. I would suggest taking the car in and have it diagnosed by someone that knows the system. Dan. Canadian "EH"
