Hi,
I'm having trouble with the cigarette lighter outlet in my '90 Honda Civic. The connector had been hanging out of the dash for awhile but I'd been able plug inverters and gps things into it no problem. I guess all the moving around eventually caused one of the wires to break at the connector. The wires ran into a black plastic connector piece that was plugged into the metal cigarette lighter connector. I was on a road trip at the time so I pulled the other wire out of the black plastic connector and stripped them a little and then twisted them around the correct connectors on the cigarette lighter connector. Well it didn't work. I did notice small sparks when I accidentally let the 2 wires touch at one point. Then when I twisted them up it still didn't work. So I checked the fuse and it was fine but I did notice it was actually 5 amps bigger than it was supposed to be.
My question is do you think because the fuse was too big that when the wires touched it melted the wires somewhere up inside the dash and that's why it's not working. Is there any other thing I should check? Thanks for any help.

Not a good thing!
Follow it back or from where it tests proper. If you need new plug ends get them - used or something. Something empowered while working is trouble from the get go.
Solder and seal or look for choices in good/better splices - crimp types or well done wire nuts for this item,
