Was having trouble starting 2007 Toyota Rav 4 and got it towed to shop. They said battery was dead so they put a new one in. Worked all day no problems. Realized that when vehicle is turned off and keys are out, the check engine light and oil lights stay on.

Turned the car back on after it was sitting for half an hour (check engine light and oil light were on the whole time the car was off) and the car had trouble starting. Any thoughts on why the check engine and oil lights stay on when car is off and keys are out? Worried they will drain the battery if it's like that all night.

That's probably an issue with the dash cluster. Why don't you try disconnecting the battery for a half hour and see if it might reset.

scan for codes, tell us ANY elec modificatuins maybe remote starter, added audio?
Check ign switch, should be able to test fuses see if any that should be hot in run/start only are hot with key in pocket.
My guess a modification or ign switch
