Car won't start properly after an electrical fire. Sign In

We had an electrical fire in our 1987 d21 Nissan pickup truck, which started in the blower motor. Alot of the wiring was damaged, and we could not find any harnesses that matched ours exactly at the junkyards. So, we spliced all the wires back carefully - matching the colorcodes and the connectors. The truck fired right up, but then the engine would flood and it wouldn't stay on more than 15 seconds. So, we checked the fuel injectors and the connections were allright. We unplugged the wires to the fuel injectors and the fuel still kept coming out when we'd turn the key. Could it be the fuel pressure regulator? How could the fire have affected that? We checked the automotive computer under the seat, and the green and red light are flashing simultaneously, 1,2,3,4,5...Where do I even begin to start? Any help all of you can give me will be greatly appreciated, as I am at my wits end.

Electric/electronic fuel injectors are opened by applying voltage to one terminal of the injector and a ground to the other terminal via the computer; spring pressure closes the injector. If you’ve disconnected the electrical connectors to the injectors; there should be no fuel flow at all.
Why both injectors would be stuck open at the same time; I’m not sure; did the fire do more damage then first thought?

Thanks for your concern! I finally got the truck to start and run well. It took alot of troubleshooting. Basically, even though the fuel injector relay was lighting up on my tester I think something was wrong with it. So, I bypassed the relay and took all the wires to it and hooked them up directly with wire nuts. Then I wired it directly to the battery and computer. Then I turned that screw that's by the left bottom side of the fuel injectors (the one that someone told me never to turn) and it fired right up. I am even getting much better gas mileage now.
