Car window child lock? Sign In

I dont know if this message belongs here or not but i was wondering how to remove the child lock, if thats what they call them, from my window so it goes all the way down. somone told me it was a computer chip i had to remove and i thought maybe it was just some wires i had to unplug but when i took off the door panel i saw that some gears roll down the window. the gear stops when the window gets half way down. i dont no if i am suppose to take the metal peice off that stops the gears from continuing or if i need to buy a whole new gear set. please help me! i drive a 1999 mercury sable. thanks!

There is no such thing as a child lock that stops the window early. That's just the way the window works. Many car do that because the shape of the rear door doesn't leave enough space for it to go all the way down. This is due to it being shaped around the rear wheel well.

It's made that way because the wheel well extends into the lower part of the door and there is no room for a full window to fit down there when lowered.
