Hello!

I own an Ford Escort 92 1.8 and I have a problem with a car stereo. Technically it works (detects music) but the sound itself wont come out of the speakers. Now Ive tested with other stereos and it works perfectly but just not the particular Id like to get it working. Now the wires are all fine EXCEPT the volume microscheme which is broken. Having that to be repaired would be costly so I might as well buy a new one but does anyone have a clue how to repair it?

Ive checked inside the stereo and the wires but it all seems okay but I did sent the stereo to couple of experts and they tell me the same that the microscheme is broken.
Any ideas how to repair or should I just buy another stereo?

It's not practical to repair them any more. Just install an aftermarket radio.

Definately put in an aftermarket deck. As HT pointed out, its not even worth the money to repair it. Also, Ford decks suck for sound quality. A Pioneer, Alpine or JVC deck new can be had for less than $200 and under $100 at a pawn shop used. Much better sound quality even with factory speakers. But remember to save yourself a lot of headache and a lot of money by swinging into the WalMart and getting the factory wiring adapter. Its right next to the car stereos. Aftermarket decks have standardized their color coding and the adapter uses the same colors so install is easy. Plugs right into your factory wiring plug so no splicing needed. If you go to sell the car you can easily take the deck with you and put the factory one back in.
