Car loses power, but battery and alternator are fine. Sign In

I can jump start it and it runs fine, but when I let it sit for a day or so there is not enough power to start the car again. The lights can go on, but there is not enough power to start the engine. I just bought a new battery 3 months ago and had it tested yesterday and it is fine, I took out the alternator and had it tested and its fine. I also used a wire brush and cleaned up all of the connections. If it is not the alternator or battery and the car jump starts fine, what could be the problem? Thank you very much for any help!!!!!

sounds like you have an excessive drain (electrical draw) on the battery.....you should take it in to a repair shop to have that checked.....many things can cause this......even something as simple as a glove box light staying on...

So the easiest way of dealing with this would be to take it to a mecanic? Or would you take it to an auto electric shop? THANK YOU!

If you have a test light you can find the circuit that is causing the problem. First thing to do is disable any interior lights. Then disconnect the battery negative cable. Hook test light between the negative terminal and the negative cable. The light should not come on. If it comes on, pull one fuse at a time until the light goes out. This is the circuit that has the problem. Just be sure it is not something you have caused by having the doors and hood open (reason for disabling the interior lights first). If you find fuse number, post it back and we can tell you what is on that circuit. If you have owners manual, it will tell you what is on that circuit.

If you have a regular shop that takes care of your vehicles I would start there. It might be a straight forward fix to find a drain on the battery. There are specialty shops for many areas of auto repair and if your regular shop is having trouble they should be able to direct you on to a shop that may be better suited to help with some problems,
