Car Alarm wont stop with key Sign In

Hello car junky, My 97 dodge caravan 6 cyl 3.8 liter has for no reason decided that i am trying to steal it. The key will not stop it when inserted and turned to any position . I remember thishas happenned before and there was some simple series of switch flicking which would deactivate it. If any one knows what the trick is it would be apreciated if you could tell me , it was something like left signal three times then turn the key but the memory is too unclear and it is hard to concentrate with the horn blasting. Thank you. The battery is currently unplugged and the van worked fine until it started honking at me.

Re: Car Alarm wont stop with key Sign In

I don't know if you are referring to the perimeter contents alarm or the engine immobilizer. If it's the contents alarm, then you should be able to disarm it by unlocking the driver's door with the key. If it's the immobilizer, there is no reset. The system is not recognizing the chip in your key.

Here is some info from the service manual.

Arming/Disarming - Active arming occurs when the remote keyless entry transmitter is used to lock the vehicle doors, whether the doors are open or closed. If one or more doors are open, the arming sequence is completed only after all doors are closed.

Passive disarming occurs upon normal vehicle entry (unlocking either front door or the liftgate with the key). This disarming also will halt the alarm once it has been activated.

Active disarming occurs when the remote keyless entry transmitter is used to unlock the vehicle doors. This disarming also will halt the alarm once it has been activated.
