Hi Tasha,

Is this to say it's now behaving as if there's no battery at all? It's very standard when working on electrical stuff to disconnect at least negative post of battery while working on a vehicle. This also can and does reset stuff all thru the thing.

If connections (battery cables at both ends) are good and this won't even crank then check a few things.

Try putting headlights on such that you can see them against something. Do they work? If so, now try starter and if lights go out that would suggest a connection problem perhaps coincidental to anything just done.

If the vehicle has an anti-theft device it may be the issue! You'll need to know how to get that back in order if so especially if an aftermarket device I don't know of one way to suggest what to do with assorted ones. Need to know if that's even in the cards with this.

Also, what was the reason for replacing the computer in the first place?

OK: I'm not the site's Mopar whiz which doesn't matter much as it's an aftermarket alarm and who knows what it does when power is lost? Some would prevent the vehicle from running, starting or just make noise and flash lights. If there was one easy way to defeat that there would be no point in the things at all so you need to find out what procedure or how to enable the vehicle.

I also don't know why it had to be removed or why it needed or thought to need resetting??

Generally when disconnecting a battery an assortment of info is lost and "Memory Savers" are to be used to prevent something like this.

Give it some time now for others to suggest but what I see now is you need the specific method to enable this vehicle again as it probably is reacting normally for that specific anti theft system. For now, I'd find out the make of the system and contact them or if you know who or where, the installer of it is,

Re: CHANGED THE COMPUTER IN A 97 GRAND CARAVAN AND NOW IT WONT START Sign In

Like what Tom has said there are so many variables; “A”is the problem caused by the factory anti theft, the after market system, the compatibility of the replacement computer with the after market alarm system?
“B” None of the above and there’s an issue with the starting system, itself?
The way things are suppose to work with the factory anti theft (if your vehicle has one; not all models do).
You park the van, remove the ignition key, get out, close & lock all the doors; this arms the anti theft; after 16 seconds.
You come back to the van; unlock the door(s) with the key or key fob (remote transmitter). This signals the Body Control Module (BCM) (computer) that the door has been opened “normaly” and not set off the lights or horn.
You now insert the key in the ignition; the BCM recognizes the chip that is imbedded in the key. The BCM now signals the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) (engine management computer) that all is ok. The PCM now applies ground to the starter relay’s pull-in coil; making it ready and waiting for you to turn the ignition to the start position. When you do turn the ignition; to the start position; that applies power to the starter relay. That closes (turns on) the relay; which applies power to the starter solenoid which in turn, engages the starter motor.
Crap that’s a mouth full and I think I still left some things out? LOL
Now you’ve got an after market alarm to add to the mix; where do we go, as in offering advice?
The only thing I can think of is; close all the doors, lock the doors wait for the 16 seconds for the factory alarm (if there’s one) to set. Then unlock and try starting?
If that doesn’t work and if you were a customer of mine I say tow it in.
Where we would go through and check the different systems that might be triggering this to happen.
Way to many variables?

Re: CHANGED THE COMPUTER IN A 97 GRAND CARAVAN AND NOW IT WONT START Sign In

most times an aftermarket alarm can be disabled very simply, thier should be a small toggle switch or small red button( attached somewhere up under the dash like if you were sitting in there it would be up in front/above your left shin. if i remember you just had to hold that button in as you turned on the key and it would disable the alarm, may have been hold it in count to 5 and turn key on but either way wouldnt hurt to just give it a look and see if their is a button to disable the alarm... other than that i remember slightly that the gm cars had a prom (Programmable Read Only Memory) you needed to take them out from the old ECM and instal in the new one, not sure if dodge did the same thing but it may be something to research

poke here ----> http://www.autocomputerexchange.com/Product/302 not sure i can get the link to work but might find some info there looks like they have sales agents you can chat with online and you can ask what the programing and all is about in the part discription that might be what i do and if thats not it than no harm done and no money spent

Now why would we say that?
I think more women should get involved with the automotive trade. The logic processing of an automotive computer is a lot like a woman’s; SNAFU. LOL
Sorry just joking; I’m glad you found the problem; you should be proud of yourself for not giving up!!!!!!!
