Brake lights Sign In

1996 dodge ram 1500. All the Brake lights work with head lights off. Rear two lights do not work with headlights on. Third brake light works all the time. Replaced bulbs, headlight switch. Is there a component th at can cause this issue or am I looking at wires?

Re: Brake lights Sign In

Sure is. The lower 2 brake lights pass through the turn signal switch first so the turn signal can cancel out the brake lights when activated.

Re: Brake lights Sign In

Try this as an easy guess why: This is a truck bed (right) so it's insulated from the frame of the truck all rubber so needs more than one probably ground strap from metal of frame to metal of the bed and only has just a touch if anything works.

Just use jumper cable (one) ground of frame to ground of truck bed make sure it's good you are only going ground to what should be strong ground and see if that makes things work. If so look for the ones it should have and fix those or can add just watch where you add and lube those so they don't even lightly rust up. Worth a try IMO,

Re: Brake lights Sign In

Nobody suggested to change anything. Nothing should ever be changed without some testing.
