No, seriously. Driver's side brake light out. Replaced lamp but no help. What now? 2000 Ford Windstar V6 146K miles.

Test the socket for power and ground arriving.

What does the inside of the socket look like? It is melted or the terminals burnt up? You need a 12 volt test lamp and/or multimeter to test the socket for power and ground while someone is hitting the brakes.

Try to get the exact right new socket and solder the wires with shrink tubing over that,
