Battery lite goes on & off, ammeter shows low charge.

Hi: 94 Ford Ranger, 2.3 eng. battery lite comes on & at same time ammeter hand show very little charge. Then you start vehicle again & it will work ok for a few minutes & then the lite & no charge. Is it the alternator or do these vehicles have a regulator that could be sticking & where is the regulator located on the vehicle? Thank you in advance for any information.

Voltage regulator should be bolted on back of alternator on this vehicle and look like above. You can have alternator tested and figure whether it needs a whole alt or just a regulator. Before all that, make sure belt stays tight enough and wiring connections are good, T
