1997 Sable, runs fine, was left with valet parking and when I returned it would not start, just the clicks indicating a dead battery. Jump started fine, but now have no radio, no heat/ac controls, the defrost fan runs on hi, the dome light is stuck on and no speedometer. Meter shows only 8 volts, and no alternator output. Perhaps valet left key on all day? Follow up question: if new alternator needed, how to replace, it looks very inaccessible, do I go in from the bottom or the top and what needs to be removed to get to it? (ok: Just removed hyperlink - Tom)

Bummer! I guess the first thing to do is charge the battery with a charger and have it and alternator tested too. Other issues may just be blown fuses so check all of them with a test light. Alternator may have been seriously stressed with a jump start if left for it to charge up a near dead battery with just a quick jump, T
