My alternator is putting out 14.5 volts i put a new battery in it let it sit over nite. the car started fine i turned the heater lights and everything I needed to drive after 40 minutes of driving everything starts shutting down with out warning can someone help? the alternator still show charging....... Check that voltage again with lights on, blower for heat on, RWD and with a slight rev of engine should still stay above about 13.5 or so. If not the alternator may not be putting out the required amps for assorted reasons. Do that load test and see what it shows. Also - don't let a very low battery new or not be exposed to very cold weather. Also take voltage reading while cranking. Should stay above 12 volts.
