You need to monitor charging system voltage at the battery terminals with a volt meter. Charging system voltage is typically around 13.5 to 14.5 volts depending on the state of the battery.

To add - they make a neat widget that just goes in a power port or lighter for just over $10 bucks with a digital display of what the voltage is so you can get better info than most gauges and watch while you are inside or driving. That should be battery voltage or close enough,

You need some real voltages. A garage confused about that is confusing me! Voltage isn't the whole story it's also amp output of the alternator and condition of battery is very important to the whole picture as well.

What is the voltage before even starting it? How low does it dip when it's cranking? If 13.5V was seen then under what conditions meaning was that a raised idle or just idle and what items that consume power were on if any?

Note: A lousy belt that's tight enough would still work so alone that wouldn't be it unless slipping. Spark plugs were replaced so what does that have to do with the charging system or condition of battery and alternator's ability?

* Battery should be separately charged and load tested.

* Charging system should then be checked for it's ability to cover loads like blowers, rear window defroster uses a lot of power, headlights are a few heavy use on the power available but a good system will cover those and remain 13.5V at a minimum or it's not up to par.

You plain need to view the actual voltage when this is acting up on you not when just sitting there still. Otherwise you are wasting time to fix this,

T
